A Man's Vow

I promise myself to be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person I meet. To make all my friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best and expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature I meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvements of myself that I have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. So help me God.

Jesse Boyd's Teaching (03.11.08)

Men of Alliance,

Thanks for the feedback on the Tuesday call. The outline and notes are included under this cover.

Excerpted from John Maxwell’s Leadership Promises for Everyday on January 23. Drummy Dave turned me on to this last year.

Equipping: The Leader's Responsibility – Think of yourself as a leader whether it’s in your home, job, or with your rookie.

Definition of Equip from Dictionary.com:
  1. to furnish or provide with whatever is needed for use or for any undertaking; fit out, as a ship or army: They spent several thousand dollars to equip their boat.
  2. to furnish with intellectual or emotional resources; prepare: Education and travel have equipped her to deal with all sorts of people.
Equipping is a tough job, much harder than merely shepherding. The leader is to equip others for whatever the job, task or ministry is. Paul explains the goal for equipping in Ephesians 4:11-13

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

If leaders wish to equip their people, they must give them certain gifts:

The following are 8 key things leaders can do to equip their people.

  1. Catch them doing something good, then reward them for it. – Use 5 penny technique. Put 5 pennies in you right pocket. Each penny represents a person you will acknowledge that day. After you acknowledge them put the penny in your left pocket. Try to do this everyday.
  2. CARE for those that you equip (communicate, affirm, recognize)
  3. Work on their weaknesses, but work out their strengths. – Example:Rookies talking about their venerability.
  4. Give of yourself (time, energy, and focus).
  5. Give them ownership of whatever it is.
  6. Become a resource person (provide atmosphere, training, support, and tools – work from your own experience).
  7. Make the expectations clear.
  8. Eliminate unnecessary burdens.
