A Man's Vow


I promise myself to be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person I meet. To make all my friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best and expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature I meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvements of myself that I have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. So help me God.

My Favorite Bible Verse

Philippians Chapter 4 verse 12.

12I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

This is my favorite verse of all time and this verse has humbled me in many seasons of my life.  This one verse had gotten me back to church when times hit the all time low with me. I was one of Gods children that seek his word and wisdom when everything around me came tumbling down and I figured out that I could not do this anymore by myself or with the help of my so called friends.  When I first got my bible I would read the word in no order at all to find another verse that I can relate to and it would give me a positive outlook on my life.  I remember my boy Jeremiah telling me to keep on reading that book because everything you are trying to do to solve your problem, God has already gone through  and knows what you are going to do next.  You need to seek his help and stop listening to everybody else, don’t take orders from anybody but him nobody on this earth can own you. 

We all get into seasons in life that we get kind of stagnant and go through the motions with God and our Faith, my wife and I are going through that right now as a matter of fact and I fall in and out of the “I can do it myself” mode or I  think I can do it.   Why do we try solve the daily struggles or problems ourselves, because of our male pride, or because we are stagnant with our faith.  Its like we know  what is good for us and we know what we need to do in order to re commit to him and renew that relationship.  Just like my marriage, sure we may go through the motions sometime and have different seasons in our lives but my wife and I always try to meet with each other half way to always keep that faith within our marriage fresh just like the time I first read that verse in Philippians.

These days to me there is so many ways that a church can present itself to the public, through appearance of how the church looks like, the brand name, amenities,  marketing, internet site, events, the  praise and worship band along with the  guest speakers oh yeah and for us we have the who’s who in Hollywood that go to ours sometimes, that it can get overwhelming  because I forget why we are really there and I know I am not the only one, because what brought me to the Oasis at first was not the word it was the “yo you gotta come check out this church’s  band”, but once the band started changing the songs  of worship I got uninterested.  Don’t get me wrong here I love what Phillip has to say every Sunday but sometimes if I can arrive late just in time to hear his word I would be cool, but that is not cool.

This is nothing deep,  but I just wanted to share with you guys my favorite verse and what I thought about this verse. So as I finish up this call, what one verse do you guys live by and why.  Did that verse save you from a bad season in your life, did it bring you back into where you needed to be in your faith and does that verse still help you today to re energize your love towards God and only God and not the amenities that a church have.
