A Man's Vow

I promise myself to be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person I meet. To make all my friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best and expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature I meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvements of myself that I have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. So help me God.

Devin McGovern Teaching (02.14.08)

Here is what I talked about on the Thurs. call:

Self-Destruction:

Many times in life we think self-destruction is the big things. Sexual immorality, pornography, alcohol or drug addictions. But those are all things we DO. But there is another aspect that can destroy us and be just as harmful and painful and that's the things we don't do.

James 4:17 says, "Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins."

Take for example the human body. If you were to lie in your bed starting today and not get out for a month, your muscles would start to atrophy. You would be destroying your body by doing nothing. To keep your muscles from essentially dying, we have to stay active.

If we hold back from doing what we are called to do in our careers, our marriage, our relationships, then we are holding ourselves back from God's true purpose, but we are also robbing those we love and love us. If we hold back a compliment from someone, we rob them because that compliment could have lifted them out of a circumstance that was dragging them down.

So be proactive in doing. Don't think that the only things that can destroy are the big harmful things, the small things is what can creep up and get you. Be mindful of the small.
