A Man's Vow
I promise myself to be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person I meet. To make all my friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best and expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature I meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvements of myself that I have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. So help me God.

Weekly Reading (04.14.08)
Fellas,
A word that keeps poppping up in my head from the daily readings is the word "destestable." Throughout the plight of the Nation of Israel, even dating back to Moses moving them towards the promise land, God uses this word detestable. He says it is destebable to Him to serve other gods. Yet, time and time again, you see God's Chosen ones vascillating in their service to God. A good King comes in and they serve God. A bad King comes in and their stray away from God. Their enemies come and capture them and they pray to God for deliverance. They get delivered and fall back into some of their old ways. God says "What you are doing is detestable to me." Do you really understand what that word means?
It means that God hates what you are doing. He has a high intensity of dislike toward that behavior you have added to your life. It makes him want to "vomit." Yep, I said vomit! The things you do that keep you from serving God at ALL TIMES makes Him want to vomit! In the King James version it states God wants to "spew" you out of his mouth, but in today's version it reads "vomit."
What makes you irritable? What pushes your buttons? What makes you want to vomit? Abusive husbands, lazy men, fathers that aren't around for their kids, our government, the war in Iraq, songs we don't sing at the Oasis, know-it-all bosses, men with no integrity, the feeling you have after you have masturbated, the feeling you have after you have watched porn, the feeling you have when you have just gotten into a fight with your wife or girlfriend, liars, cheaters, manipulators? What things are detestable to you. When you think about it, the way these things make you feel, is the same way God feels when you don't follow Him Daily. If Jesus is your Lord, then why do you serve Him like He is only a man?
As you are reading this week's reading, remember the detestable things God has forgiven you for. If you continue on with them, you too will be just like the Nation of Israel. You will turned over to your enemies. You will be a captive in a free world......DETESTABLE!
