A Man's Vow
I promise myself to be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person I meet. To make all my friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best and expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature I meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvements of myself that I have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. So help me God.

Weekly Reading (04.07.08)
Fellas,
Once again I am burning the candle at both ends and getting this email out to you late, but none the less, you get your weekly readings.
Have you ever had anything that meant so much to you, that you were willing to do anything to keep it? How about having something so important to you that eventually you took it for granted the great thing you had and began to slowly let it be taken away? King David was promised the throne of Israel and God gave it to Him. God loved David so much, He would deny him nothing.....not even the Throne of Israel. Even when David messed up, God still kept His Promise to David that He would not take the Kingdom away from him. In fact, God told David that as long as he continued to obey His Commands and not serve other gods, the throne would not be taken away from him or from his lineage. Pretty simple thing to do, right? I mean, how hard can it be to not serve idol gods?
Well, it is true that the sins of the fathers are carried over to their sons, if the father does not put a stop to the shannigans (bad seeds) he planted. David slept with Bathsheba, his son Absolom slept with one of his wives, and one of his other sons had sex with his sister. Solomon comes along and promises to complete the building of God's Temple which his father, David, was not able to do. God makes the same promise with Solomon as He did with David.....keep my commandments and serve no other God and I will never take the throne away from you. Solomon starts out with a big bang. He is granted one wish from God and he asks for wisdom. Because of his wish, God gives him more. He gets wealth, fame, and honor, but these things soon go to his head and he begins to marry the detestable women God asked Israel not to marry. The reason God said no? Because he knew these evil women, regardless of the fact they were marrying the richest, wisest, and most powerful man in the world, would soon turn Solomon's heart towards idolatry......and they did.
But still God loved David so much, he did not take the Kingdom away from Solomon, but it was divided, and Israel for the first time becomes somewhat of a pagan nation. Wow, God's Chosen Ones, are now, the evil ones. Where have you turned from God? As you continue your reading or pick up and try to catch up in your readings you will continuously see God's Desire to win back His People. It's not until Jesus comes on the scene is the task completed.
